Here's hoping the author works in Heartmobs and other crews of people recruited to mass-attack targets on social media. It's woke Gamergate: better funded, more feminized, and dishonest.

Haven't heard of "Heartmobs." Can you provide more info? I didn't find anything in a quick search.

I think you're right that I should have Travis admonish the superintendent that those campaigns are often faked and astro-turfed.

Just remember the Heart in Heartmobs is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.

BTW we are getting a Bucees here by the end of the year, and rumor has it that In and Out is coming to SW Missouri as well. No food desert here!

It looks like the superintendent is doing the same thing here, giving a distorted view of public sentiment in order to pressure Mike into apologizing,

I'm imagining that the superintendent is telling the literal truth, and that there is an astro-turfed "grass-roots campaign" of people flooding him and everyone around Mike they can get to with demands to apologize and capitulate.

Long story short the Vice President Dr Maryam Mohammadkhani was voted out as Vice President of the school board,

When the Superintendent tells Mike that he has to apologize because of all the negative comments they are getting on Facebook etc. It makes me think of what happened this past school year in Springfield MO public schools.

A field trip of about 40 students was taken to nearby Missouri State University for a lecture on racial equality or something of that sort.

At one point in the presentation the students were told to close their eyes and raise their hands if they had racially traumatized.

When they were told to open their eyes they were also told that EVERYONE had raised their hands.

The one problem they had was that the Vice President of the school board was also there and she observed that only 10 of the 40 students had raised their hands.

Appreciate the comment on multiple levels that using they/them for an individual calls to mind the phrase "my name is legion" -- possessed by demons. Not that most so-called gay people feel that they are, but most do not think their gender is unrelated to biology either, I believe.

That line has attracted some of the most attention of anything in the book, while at the same time I had a couple of readers tell me they "didn't get it" and suggest I take it out.

Of course, it refers to the Bible story in which a demon-possessed man declares "my name is legion," and Jesus casts out the demons into a herd of swine.

My reference is not to suggest that all gay people or all people who use plural pronouns are literally demonic. But President Buchmann's advocacy of a law mandating recognition of her ideology under penalty of law strikes Senator Travis - and I'm sure some readers as well - as at least figuratively demonic.
