Fiction becomes Reality; what Hans Schantz meant to be a cautionary tale becomes a banned documentary.

nothing ruffles THIS conservative’s bowtie more than the suggestion that conservatives should never apologize no matter what. Why can’t we conservatives be big enough to apologize when we’ve caused offense? After all, our Judeo-Christian morality tells us to man up and accept responsibility for our actions. Psalm 38:18 teaches us, ‘For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.’ What is the conservative case for an apology.

The problem with this is that the left NEVER apologies when they run roughshod over the rest of us

no, not "when we've caused offense" - but when we've actually wronged someone. and even then, if they are inclined to not accept an apology but treat it as an admission of guilt to further press things?

I believe people should be treated in accordance with how they prove they see moral. If a leftist won't apologize, why should I bother apologizing to him? At least once I know what he's up to. See Taleb's silver rule, or what I think of as an unpacked golden rule.

Why ? Because I may want to be treated nice, but even more I also want to be treated JUSTLY

Exactly. Generous people are prone to accept responsibility and blame by way of offering an apology to defuse social tension. That benevolent trait is exploited by the ill-intentioned who will treat an apology as an admission of guilt and then pile on even worse than before. Apologies only work in a high-trust community.

'Ya know, the more I read of this, the more I see this story as both realistic and terrifying. Kudos on an incredible update to an old story, that should be required reading in high schools.

Hans brings the realistic and terrifying touch to his Hidden Truth novels as well.
